Biography
Milan Roder (1878–1956) was a Croatian-American composer, orchestrator and music director who worked extensively in Hollywood during the 1930s. Born in Osijek, he immigrated to the United States in 1914 and became a naturalised citizen in 1920.
He contributed music to numerous films, including A Farewell to Arms (1932), The Sign of the Cross (1932), Cleopatra (1934), The Lives of a Bengal Lancer (1935) and Death Takes a Holiday (1934). He received an Academy Award nomination for his work on Souls at Sea (1937). Earlier in his career he served as musical director and orchestrator on several Broadway productions.
Roder died in Los Angeles in January 1956.
