Biography
Mildred Dunnock was an American stage, film and television actress. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she graduated from Goucher College and later earned a master's degree from Columbia University. She worked as a schoolteacher before making her Broadway debut in 1932.
Dunnock originated the role of Linda Loman in the 1949 Broadway production of Death of a Salesman and reprised it in the 1951 film adaptation, for which she received an Academy Award nomination. She earned a second Oscar nomination for her role in Baby Doll (1956). Other film credits include Viva Zapata! (1952), The Trouble with Harry (1955), Peyton Place (1957) as Miss Elsie Thornton, The Nun's Story (1959), BUtterfield 8 (1960) and Sweet Bird of Youth (1962). She was a founding member of the Actors Studio.
