Biography

Mordecai Lawner (9 June 1928 – 27 November 2014) was an American actor in film, television and theatre. He is known for his role as Alvy's father in Woody Allen's Annie Hall (1977), appearing in a flashback sequence set beneath the Coney Island Cyclone. His other film credits include the Process Server in Claudine (1974), a Waiter in Hester Street (1975), Marcellino in Raw Deal (1986) and the Man with a Ticket in Ghostbusters II (1989).

Lawner maintained a stage career that included a Broadway appearance as Stanley in the 1995 Circle in the Square production of Death of a Salesman. He taught theatre at the High School of Performing Arts, the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre and Carnegie Mellon University. A graduate of City College of New York and a US Army veteran, he lived primarily in Manhattan and was married to actress Eugenia Thornton until her death in 2005.
