Biography
Nancy Walker was an American actress and director. Born Anna Myrtle Swoyer on 10 May 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she began her career on Broadway in the 1940s with roles in musicals such as Best Foot Forward (1941) and On the Town (1944).
She became widely known for her television work in the 1970s, playing Ida Morgenstern on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970) and its spin-off Rhoda (1974), and Mildred on McMillan & Wife (1971). Walker also directed episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Rhoda and other series, as well as the 1980 feature film Can't Stop the Music. She appeared in films including Murder by Death (1976) and was recognised for her Bounty paper towel commercials. Walker died on 25 March 1992 in Studio City, California.
