Biography
Ned Wertimer was an American character actor. He appeared as Andy Henderson in the 1964 film Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and played Ralph Hart, the doorman, in 57 episodes of the sitcom The Jeffersons (1975–1985), having first appeared in the role in the 1975 All in the Family episode that served as its pilot.
Born in Buffalo, New York, Wertimer served as a Navy pilot during the Second World War and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He began his career in New York theatre before moving into television in the early 1950s, accumulating guest roles on series including I Dream of Jeannie, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Gunsmoke and The Practice.
His film credits include Bad Company (1972) and a small role in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007). Wertimer died in 2013.
