Biography
Neil Canton is an American film producer born on 30 May 1948 in New York City. He graduated from American University in Washington, DC, in 1970. He began his career in the film industry as an assistant to director Peter Bogdanovich on films including What's Up, Doc? (1972), Paper Moon (1973) and Nickelodeon (1976).
Canton produced The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984) before joining Bob Gale as producer of the Back to the Future trilogy (1985–1990). He has also produced The Witches of Eastwick (1987), Money Train (1995), Get Carter (2000) and Interstate 60 (2002), and served as co-producer on Land of the Dead (2005).
Canton received a Western Heritage Award for Geronimo: An American Legend (1993) and was nominated for a BAFTA Film Award for Back to the Future. He has taught producing at the American Film Institute Conservatory. His brother Mark Canton is also a film producer.
