Biography
Nicola Piovani is an Italian composer of film, theatre and concert music. Born in Rome on 26 May 1946, he studied piano at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan and orchestration under Manos Hadjidakis.
He has written scores for more than 190 films since the late 1960s. He is known for his work with directors including Federico Fellini on his final three films (Ginger and Fred, Intervista and The Voice of the Moon), Roberto Benigni (Life Is Beautiful, 1997), Nanni Moretti (Caro diario, 1993; The Son's Room, 2001) and the Taviani brothers. For the score of Life Is Beautiful he received the Academy Award for Best Original Dramatic Score in 1999 and a Grammy nomination in 2000.
