Biography
Noel Langley (25 December 1911 – 4 November 1980) was a South African-born novelist, playwright, screenwriter and director who later became a naturalised American. He began his career writing plays and novels in Britain before moving to Hollywood under contract to MGM.
Langley is best known for his work on The Wizard of Oz (1939), for which he wrote the initial screenplay and received credit for the adaptation alongside Florence Ryerson and Edgar Allan Woolf. His other screenwriting credits include They Made Me a Fugitive (1947), Scrooge (1951), Ivanhoe (1952), The Prisoner of Zenda (1952) and Knights of the Round Table (1953).
