Biography
Norbert Brodine, also credited as Norbert F. Brodin and Norbert Brodin, was an American cinematographer. He was born on 16 December 1896 in St Joseph, Missouri, and died on 28 February 1970 in Los Angeles, California.
Brodine began his career working in a camera shop and served as an army photographer in the US Army Signal Corps during the First World War. After studying at Columbia University, he worked as a still photographer in Hollywood before moving into motion pictures in 1919. He worked exclusively for Hal Roach Studios from 1937 and joined 20th Century Fox in 1943.
His credits include Libeled Lady (1936), Topper (1937), Of Mice and Men (1939), Kiss of Death (1947), Thieves' Highway (1949), I Was a Male War Bride (1949), The Desert Fox: The Story of Rommel (1951) and 5 Fingers (1952). He also shot several Laurel and Hardy films. Brodine worked in television from the early 1950s until 1960, including on The Loretta Young Show.
