Biography
Oswald Eduard Hafenrichter (10 April 1899 – 18 May 1973) was an Austrian-British film editor. He began his career in Germany, studying medicine before becoming an editor at UFA in Berlin in 1926. He later worked in Italy with director Carmine Gallone before fleeing to the United Kingdom as a refugee during the Second World War, where he edited propaganda films for the Ministry of Information.
After the war, Hafenrichter joined Alexander Korda's London Films and worked frequently with Carol Reed. His credits include An Ideal Husband (1947), The Fallen Idol (1948) and The Third Man (1949), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing. He also edited more than twenty Brazilian films in the 1950s, primarily for the Vera Cruz studio, before returning to Britain.
His later work included The Guns of Navarone (1961), Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965) and several Hammer horror films such as The Skull (1965), Cry of the Banshee (1970), Trog (1970), The Creeping Flesh (1973) and The Vault of Horror (1973).
