Biography
Patrick Holt (born Patrick George Parsons) was an English film and television actor, also credited as Patrick Parsons. He was born on 31 January 1912 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, and died on 12 October 1993 in London. He began his career in repertory theatre and secured a leading stage role in London in 1939, but his work was interrupted by the Second World War. He served in the British Army in Burma, Singapore and India, often on secret missions, and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
After the war, Holt joined the J. Arthur Rank charm school and appeared in supporting roles in films such as Hungry Hill, Frieda and The October Man (all 1947). He became a leading man in late-1940s British films and later starred in numerous B-movies before transitioning to character parts. His credits include Ivanhoe (1952), Thunderball (1965), When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth (1970) as Ammon, The Wild Geese (1978) and television appearances in The Avengers, The Saint and Emmerdale.
