Biography
Patt Shea (12 April 1931 – 12 April 2024) was an American television writer and story editor. Born Patricia Catherine Carmody in Sacramento, California, she attended Immaculate Heart College and took writing classes at UCLA. She received her first television writing credit on The Jeffersons in 1977 and often collaborated with writing partner Harriett Weiss.
Shea worked extensively on Norman Lear productions, serving as a staff writer on Archie Bunker's Place (1979–1983) and co-creating the spin-off Gloria (1982–1983). She wrote the final episode of All in the Family, 'Too Good Edith' (1979), and contributed episodes to The Golden Girls (1987), Happy Days (1980), Cagney & Lacey (1982), In the Heat of the Night (1992) and others. She received three Humanitas Prize nominations.
Shea was co-founder and chair of Catholics in Media Associates (CIMA). Her husband was television director Jack Shea.
