Biography

Paul Brightwell is an English actor and director. He began acting in the mid-1980s, with an early leading role as Uriah Heep in the BBC series David Copperfield (1986). He has appeared in numerous stage productions, films and television programmes.

His film credits include Quartermaster Hichens in Titanic (1997), Clive in Sliding Doors (1998) and Cubby in Last Night in Soho (2021). On television he has played Sir Percival Turner in Outlander (2017), the Surgeon in Doctor Who (2017) and Doctor Glubb in Pennyworth (2022). Brightwell has also directed theatre, including the British premieres of Heiner Müller's Hamletmachine at the Gate Notting Hill and Witkiewicz's They at the Polish Theatre in Hammersmith.
