Biography
Paul Butler (12 March 1942 – 12 January 2010) was an American actor. Born in Pennsylvania, he appeared in supporting roles in numerous films and television series. His credits include the Policeman in Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), Charlie Phillips in The Insider (1999), a Detective in Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007), George Johnson in Reign Over Me (2007) and Captain Hargate in The Rookie (1990).
Butler had an extensive stage career, creating roles in Broadway productions including A Few Good Men and appearing in The Piano Lesson and Jitney. He received Drama Desk Awards for ensemble performances in Balm in Gilead (1985) and Jitney (2000), and an Obie Award for the latter. On television he was a series regular as Detective Walter Clemmons in Crime Story (1986–1988) and guest-starred in series such as Law & Order and Third Watch.
