Biography

Paul Englishby is a British composer, orchestrator, conductor and pianist. He was born in Preston, Lancashire in 1970 and studied composition at Goldsmiths' College and the Royal Academy of Music, where he received the Charles Lucas Prize for Composition and the Arthur Hervey Scholarship.

He is best known for his score for the Oscar-nominated film An Education (2009), for which he received an ASCAP Award; the Emmy Award-winning score for the television film Page Eight (2011); and the BAFTA-nominated score for the BBC series Luther (2010–2019). Englishby has composed extensively for the Royal Shakespeare Company, of which he is an Associate Artist, and for other theatre productions including The Inheritance (2018), for which he received Tony and Olivier Award nominations.
