Biography
Paul Mann (2 December 1913 – 24 September 1985) was a Canadian actor and acting teacher. Born in Toronto, he trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse and with the Group Theatre in New York. He founded the Paul Mann Actors Workshop in 1953 and later served as a professor of acting and director of the theatre arts programme at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, as well as Master Teacher of Acting at New York University’s School of the Arts.
Mann’s screen career was brief. He appeared as Aleko Sinnikoglou in Elia Kazan’s America America (1963) and as Lazar Wolf in the film adaptation of Fiddler on the Roof (1971). He received Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor for both performances. His work was primarily in theatre, with numerous Broadway credits from the late 1920s onwards.
