Biography
Paul Merton is an English comedian, actor, writer and presenter. Born Paul James Martin on 9 July 1957 in Parsons Green, London, he began performing in the 1980s.
He appeared as the Barman in the series One Foot in the Grave (1990) and as a peasant in The Young Ones (1982). Merton is known for regular appearances on Whose Line Is It Anyway? (1988–1993), as a team captain on Have I Got News for You (1990–) and as host of Room 101. He played himself in Years and Years (2019) and has written for several comedy series.
