Biography

Peter Finch, also credited as Frederick George Peter Ingle Finch, was an English-Australian actor. He was born on 28 September 1916 in South Kensington, London, and died on 14 January 1977 in Los Angeles.

Finch began his career in Australia in the 1930s before moving to Britain. He appeared in numerous films, including The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men (1952), The Nun's Story (1959), Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971) as Dr Daniel Hirsh, and Far from the Madding Crowd (1967).

He is best known for his role as Howard Beale in Network (1976). Finch won five BAFTA awards for Best Actor and received a posthumous Academy Award for Best Actor for Network, the first actor to win an Oscar posthumously in an acting category.
