Biography
Peter Masterson (born Carlos Bee Masterson Jr.) was an American actor, director, producer and writer. Born in Houston, Texas, on 1 June 1934, he died in Kinderhook, New York, on 18 December 2018. He appeared in films including The Exorcist (1973) as Dr. Barringer and The Stepford Wives (1975) as Walter Eberhart, before concentrating on directing and writing.
Masterson co-wrote the book for the Broadway musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1978) with Larry L. King; the 1982 film adaptation followed. He directed The Trip to Bountiful (1985), for which Geraldine Page won the Academy Award for Best Actress. His other directing credits include Full Moon in Blue Water (1988) and Night Game (1989). He often collaborated with his cousin, writer Horton Foote, and was married to actress Carlin Glynn; their daughter is actress Mary Stuart Masterson.
