Biography
Peter Swanwick (1922–1968) was a British character actor. He began his career after the Second World War as a stagehand at the Nottingham Playhouse and then spent two years in repertory with the Argosy Players in Mansfield before moving to London in 1950.
Swanwick appeared in numerous films from the early 1950s, including The African Queen (1951) as the First Officer of Fort Shona, Circus of Horrors (1960) as Inspector Knopf and The Devil Rides Out (1968). On television he featured in series such as Danger Man, The Avengers (1968) as Oppenheimer and, most notably, as the Supervisor in eight episodes of The Prisoner (1967). He also originated the non-singing role of Herr Zeller in the original London stage production of The Sound of Music.
