Biography

Philip Ahn (also credited as Phillip Ahn) was a Korean American actor. Born Pil Lip Ahn on 29 March 1905 in Highland Park, Los Angeles, he died on 28 February 1978. He appeared in more than 180 film and television roles between 1935 and 1978, often portraying Asian characters of varying nationalities.

Ahn's first credited film roles came in 1936. He played Third Uncle in Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing (1955) and appeared in Around the World in 80 Days (1956). He gained later recognition as Master Kan in the television series Kung Fu (1972–1975). Ahn was the first Korean American film actor to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, awarded posthumously in 1984. He was the son of Korean independence activist Ahn Chang-ho.
