Biography
Philip Madoc was a Welsh actor. Born Philip Arvon Jones on 5 July 1934 in Merthyr Tydfil, he died on 5 March 2012. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after studying languages at the University of Vienna and appeared in many stage, television, radio and film roles.
He played multiple characters in Doctor Who (1963) and The Avengers (1961), and appeared in films including The Spy Who Came In from the Cold (1965) and Doppelgänger (1969). He is also known for the U-boat captain in the Dad's Army episode "The Deadly Attachment" (1973).
Madoc took the title role in the 1981 series The Life and Times of David Lloyd George and starred as DCI Noel Bain in A Mind to Kill (1994–2002). He appeared as Mr Snetterton in The Good Life (1975).
