Biography
Preben Lerdorff Rye (also credited as Preben Leerdorff-Rye and Preben Lerdorff) was a Danish actor. He was born on 23 May 1917 in Rudkøbing and died on 15 June 1995.
He trained at Odense Teater from 1938 and the Royal Danish Theatre school from 1940, becoming a member of the Royal Theatre until 1961. After a period working outside the theatre in the 1960s, he returned to acting and served as director of Danmarks Turnéteater from 1973 to 1978. He appeared in numerous films from 1941 to 1989.
Rye is known for roles in Day of Wrath (1943) as Martin, Ordet (1955) as Johannes Borgen (uncredited), Babette's Feast (1987) as the Captain, The Element of Crime (1984) as Grandfather, and Medea (1988) as Paedragon. He received Bodil awards for I gabestokken (1950) and En fremmed banker på (1959).
