Biography
R. C. Sherriff, also known as Robert Cedric Sherriff, was an English playwright and screenwriter. Born on 6 June 1896 in Hampton Wick, Middlesex, he was educated at Kingston Grammar School and worked in insurance before serving as an officer in the First World War, experiences that informed his most famous play, Journey's End (1928).
Sherriff wrote numerous plays and novels, and became a prolific screenwriter in Britain and Hollywood. His credits include the screenplays for The Invisible Man (1933), Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939, for which he shared an Academy Award nomination), The Four Feathers (1939), Odd Man Out (1947) and The Dam Busters (1955). He died on 13 November 1975 in London.
