Biography
Ray Burdis is an English actor, screenwriter, director and film producer. Born in London on 23 August 1958, he began acting at the age of eleven and trained at the Anna Scher Theatre in Islington. He made his screen debut in 1972 and appeared in early television roles including episodes of Steptoe and Son and the series You Must Be Joking!, which he also co-created and wrote.
Burdis is known for acting roles in Scum (1979) as Eckersley, Gandhi (1982) and Casualty. He produced the 1990 film The Krays and later concentrated on writing, producing and directing, including Final Cut (1998), Love, Honour and Obey (2000) and The Wee Man (2013). He created, co-wrote, produced, directed and starred in the BBC series Operation Good Guys (1997–2000), which won awards at the Montreux Golden Rose Festival. He is the brother of actor Mark Burdis.
