Biography
Ray Smith (1 May 1936 – 15 December 1991) was a Welsh actor. He is known for his role as Detective Superintendent Gordon Spikings in the television series Dempsey and Makepeace (1985–1986).
Smith appeared in many British television series, including as George Barraclough in Sam (1973–1975) and as Detective Inspector Percy Firbank in Public Eye. His final role was as Charlie Norris in the 1992 television adaptation of The Old Devils.
He died of a heart attack in December 1991 while filming The Old Devils and received a posthumous BAFTA Cymru Award for Best Actor in 1992.
