Biography
Reginald Beck (1902–1992) was a British film editor. Born in St Petersburg, Russia, his family emigrated to Britain in 1915. He began working in the industry in 1927 as a camera assistant at Gainsborough Pictures and became an editor in the 1930s.
Beck edited Laurence Olivier’s Henry V (1944), for which the credits read “Produced and directed by Laurence Olivier in close collaboration with the editor Reginald Beck”. He also served as associate producer on Olivier’s Hamlet (1948). From 1958 he collaborated extensively with Joseph Losey, editing sixteen of the director’s films including The Go-Between (1971), Accident (1967) and Don Giovanni (1979), for which he received the César Award for Best Editing. His other credits include Modesty Blaise (1966) and Robbery (1967). He was the brother of Violet Helen Beck Cushing, wife of actor Peter Cushing.
