Biography
Rex Evans (13 April 1903 – 3 April 1969) was a British actor born in Southport, Sefton, England. He began his career with cabaret and music hall work before moving to the United States in the 1930s, where he appeared on Broadway.
In film he was frequently cast as butlers or affluent businessmen, often in uncredited roles. He is credited as Thomas in The Philadelphia Story (1940) and appeared in Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943), Camille (1936), Suspicion (1941), Adam's Rib (1949), A Star Is Born (1954) and Midnight Lace (1960). Evans was a close friend of director George Cukor and appeared in ten of his films.
He also performed on stage in the original Broadway production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1949) and operated an art gallery in Hollywood. His brother Laurence Evans was a noted London theatrical agent.
