Biography
Richard Dawking (1938–1985) was a British art director and production designer. He worked in the art department on Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and as assistant art director on Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983) and The Dark Crystal (1982). He served as art director on Monty Python's The Meaning of Life (1983), Electric Dreams (1984) and White Nights (1985).
Dawking's final credit was as production designer, shared with Terry Knight, on The Jewel of the Nile (1985). He died on 19 March 1985 in a plane crash in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco, while scouting locations for the film. The completed film is dedicated to his memory.
