Biography
Richard Hope is a British actor born on 11 October 1953 in Kettering, Northamptonshire. He trained at the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain from 1972 to 1976 and began his professional career in the mid-1970s.
His early television work included a role in Laurence Olivier Presents: Saturday, Sunday, Monday (1978). He appeared as Lieutenant Hooper in the first and last episodes of Brideshead Revisited (1981). Hope has maintained an extensive stage career, performing with companies including the Royal National Theatre, Complicité and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
On television he is known for roles including Harris Pascoe in Poldark (2015–2019), Dr Malokeh and Bleytal in Doctor Who (2005), Supt. Harold Spence in Agatha Christie's Poirot (1989) and appearances in Skins (2007), Broadchurch (2013), 1899 (2022) and Hijack (2023).
