Biography
Richard Pearson, also credited as Richard de Pearsall Pearson, was a British character actor. Born in Monmouth, Wales, in 1918, he made his stage debut in 1937 and appeared in numerous West End productions over more than 65 years, including the original London production of Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party (1958). He supported Maggie Smith, Robert Morley and others in long-running plays.
His film roles included Mr Tupper in Scrooge (1951) and character parts in three Roman Polanski films: Macbeth (1971), Tess (1979) and Pirates (1986). On television he appeared in One Foot in the Grave (1992) as Alfred Meldrew, voiced Mole in adaptations of The Wind in the Willows (from 1983), and featured in series including Inspector Morse (1991), A Fine Romance and Men Behaving Badly (both 1995). He died in 2011.
