Biography
Robert Covarrubias is an American actor. Born and raised in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, he began acting in high school and studied theatre arts at Los Angeles City College. He performed as Pozo the clown with the Tripoli Circus on two Midwest tours and worked as a stage hand for the Bi-Lingual Foundation of the Arts before his screen debut in the 1979 film Boulevard Nights.
He joined the Improvisational Theatre Project at the Mark Taper Forum in 1979 and has worked in improv with groups including Cold Tofu and Los Angeles Theatresports. Covarrubias is known for guest roles in series such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, ER, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Shield and Shameless, as well as film appearances including The Terminal (2004) and Sideways (2004). From 1993 to 2014 he made over 250 appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in various characters.
