Biography
Robert Day, also credited as Robert Frederick Day, was an English film and television director. Born in Sheen, England, he began in the industry as a clapper boy and rose to cinematographer before directing his first feature, the black comedy The Green Man (1956).
He directed more than 40 films between 1956 and 1991, including Two-Way Stretch (1960), She (1965) and several Tarzan films. In the 1960s he relocated to Hollywood and increasingly worked in television, directing episodes of series such as The Avengers (1961) and later Kojak (1973), Dallas (1978), The Streets of San Francisco (1972), Ironside (1967) and Matlock (1986).
His brother was cinematographer Ernest Day. He retired after the 1991 television film Fire: Trapped on the 37th Floor.
