Biography
Robert F. Shugrue was an American film editor. Born in Santa Monica, California, on 17 January 1937, he began his career in 1956 as a staff apprentice editor at Universal Television’s Revue Studios. He worked on series including The Millionaire, Leave It to Beaver and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and received early editing credits on episodes of Kojak and other television projects.
Shugrue edited numerous television films and miniseries as well as feature films. His credits include Two Mules for Sister Sara (1970), Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), The Thorn Birds (1983), It (1990) and Street Fighter (1994). He won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Film Editing for the 1982 miniseries A Woman Called Golda and received further Emmy nominations for The Neon Ceiling (1971), The Thorn Birds and It.
He was a member of a multi-generational entertainment industry family. Shugrue died of heart failure in Los Angeles on 27 November 1999, aged 62.
