Biography
Robert Flemyng (3 January 1912 – 22 May 1995) was a British stage and film actor. Born in Liverpool, the son of a doctor, he was educated at Haileybury and briefly studied medicine before turning to acting. He made his stage debut in the early 1930s and appeared in repertory and on Broadway.
During the Second World War he served with the Royal Army Medical Corps, reaching the rank of colonel and receiving the Military Cross in 1941; he was appointed OBE in 1944. After the war he became a familiar character actor in British cinema, with roles including Paul Duval in Funny Face (1957), Wing Commander Willoughby in Battle of Britain (1969) and Claude Bird in Shadowlands (1993).
Flemyng continued working in film and television into the 1990s. His later credits include Judge McKinley in The Medusa Touch (1978), Samuel Fennan in The Deadly Affair (1967) and The Keeper of the Files in Kafka (1991).
