Biography
Robert Freitag (born Robert Peter Freytag) was an Austrian-Swiss actor and director. Born in Vienna in 1916, he trained at the Max Reinhardt Seminar and worked at the Schauspielhaus Zürich during the Second World War. He appeared in films from the early 1940s and later directed for stage and screen.
He is known for roles in Decision Before Dawn (1951) as Sgt. Paul Richter, The Longest Day (1962) and The Great Escape (1963) as Capt. Posen. Freitag also had a long stage career in classical and modern roles and appeared frequently on German television. He was married to the actresses Maria Becker and Maria Sebaldt. He died in Munich in 2010.
