Biography
Robert Lawrence is an American film producer and former studio executive. He was born in New York City and grew up in Great Neck, New York. He graduated with honours from the University of California, Berkeley, and attended the Graduate Screenwriting Program at the UCLA School of Film and Television.
Lawrence began his career in the story department at Paramount Pictures before joining the Robert Evans unit as a writer. He later served as vice-president of production at Columbia Pictures and as executive vice-president of worldwide production there from 1985, overseeing films including Ghostbusters (1984), The Karate Kid (1984), Tootsie (1982) and Out of Africa (1985). In 1986 he became president of motion picture production at United Artists. As an independent producer he co-founded Maysville Pictures with George Clooney and established Robert Lawrence Productions.
His producing credits include Clueless (1995), Down Periscope (1996), The Last Castle (2001), Rock Star (2001) and Mozart and the Whale (2005). He was executive producer on Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995).
