Biography

Roberto Bonelli is a production designer. Born in Copenhagen in 1972 to a Danish mother and Italian father, he studied theatre design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo and specialised in design for film and television at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts, graduating with first-class honours in 1997. He has been based in Mexico City since around 2005.

He has worked as art director, set decorator and production designer on numerous features. Early credits include art direction on Apocalypto (2006) and Love in the Time of Cholera (2007), and set decoration on Dragonball Evolution (2009). Later work encompasses supervising art director on BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths (2022) and production design on Hail Mary (2023) and Blink Twice (2024). He received a Mexican Academy Award for best production design and an Art Directors Guild nomination for BARDO.
