Biography

Roscoe "Rocky" Carroll (born July 8, 1963) is an American actor and director. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he graduated from the School for Creative and Performing Arts in 1981 and earned a BFA from the Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University. He began his career in theatre, appearing in Shakespeare productions in New York and receiving a Tony Award nomination for his role in August Wilson's The Piano Lesson (1990).

Carroll's television work includes the role of Joey Emerson on the Fox series Roc (1991–94) and Dr Keith Wilkes on Chicago Hope (1996–2000). He has portrayed NCIS Director Leon Vance on the CBS drama NCIS since 2008, later appearing in the spin-offs NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans. Film credits include Born on the Fourth of July (1989), Crimson Tide (1995) and Yes Man (2008). He has also directed episodes of NCIS.

Carroll married Gabrielle Bullock in 1996; they have one daughter.
