Biography
Rodolfo Acosta was a Mexican-American character actor known for roles as outlaws and Native Americans in Hollywood Westerns. He was sometimes credited as Rudolph or Rudolfo Acosta.
Acosta studied drama at Los Angeles City College, UCLA and the Pasadena Playhouse, and received a scholarship to the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. After serving in the US Navy during the Second World War, he began his career in Mexican films before appearing in John Ford’s The Fugitive (1947).
He became a familiar presence in Westerns including Hondo (1953), Flaming Star (1960), One-Eyed Jacks (1961), How the West Was Won (1962), The Sons of Katie Elder (1965) and Return of the Seven (1966). Acosta also appeared in television series such as Bonanza, Zorro, Mission: Impossible and as a regular on The High Chaparral.
