Biography

Roland Culver was an English stage, film and television actor. After Highgate School he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made his stage debut in 1925 with the Hull Repertory Theatre. He appeared regularly in the West End from the 1930s.

His film roles included Colonel Betteridge in The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943), Eliot Foley in Dead of Night (1945), and the Foreign Secretary in Thunderball (1965). He also worked in television, appearing in series such as The Avengers (1961) and The Persuaders! (1971). He was awarded an OBE in 1980 for services to drama and retired in 1983.

Culver was married first to Daphne Rye and then to Nan Hopkins. He died on 1 March 1984 in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
