Biography
Rolfe Sedan was an American character actor known for numerous bit parts, often uncredited, in which he typically portrayed clerks, waiters, postmen, train conductors and similar roles.
He began his career as a nightclub and vaudeville performer and appeared in East Coast theatre. Sedan made his Broadway debut in 1916 and his first film appearance in 1921. He is remembered for playing the hotel manager in Ninotchka (1939) and for an uncredited role as the balloon ascensionist in The Wizard of Oz (1939). Other film credits include uncredited appearances in Grand Hotel (1932), A Night at the Opera (1935) and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), and the train conductor in Young Frankenstein (1974).
From the 1950s he took guest roles in television series including I Love Lucy. His most frequent television work was in recurring parts as mail carriers: 25 episodes as Mr Beasley on The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show and four episodes as Mr Briggs on The Addams Family. Sedan remained active for more than six decades.
