Biography
Ronan Bennett is an Irish novelist and screenwriter. Born on 14 January 1956 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he studied history at King's College London, where he completed a PhD in 1988. He began his writing career with novels including The Catastrophist (1998) and Havoc, in Its Third Year (2004), before moving into screenwriting.
Bennett is known for creating and writing the crime drama series Top Boy (2011–2023), for which he received a BAFTA award. His other credits include the screenplay for the film Public Enemies (2009), the miniseries Gunpowder (2017), and creating The Day of the Jackal (2024) and MobLand (2025).
