Biography
Ronnie Le Drew (1947–2026) was a Canadian-born British puppeteer and actor. Born in Toronto, he moved to London as a child and trained at the Little Angel Theatre. He became best known for operating the puppet Zippy on the ITV children's series Rainbow from 1974 until the early 1990s.
Le Drew worked extensively in film and television puppetry, including on Labyrinth (1986), Little Shop of Horrors (1986) and Muppet Treasure Island (1996). He also appeared as Marvin Monroe in the film A Quiet Place: Day One (2024). He co-founded the London School of Puppetry and wrote the memoir Zippy and Me (2019). He died in the UK in July 2026.
