Biography
Ross Hunter (born Martin Terry Fuss; 6 May 1920 – 10 March 1996) was an American film and television producer and actor. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he taught English and drama before serving in US Army Intelligence during the Second World War. He began his Hollywood career as an actor in the mid-1940s, appearing in several B-movies, before turning to producing in the early 1950s.
Hunter produced more than sixty films, many for Universal Pictures, specialising in romantic comedies and glamorous melodramas. His credits include Magnificent Obsession (1954), All That Heaven Allows (1955), Pillow Talk (1959), Imitation of Life (1959), Midnight Lace (1960), Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) and Airport (1970). The latter earned him his only Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. He later produced made-for-television films.
