Biography
Roy Engel (also credited as Roy Engle) was an American actor who worked in radio, film and television from the 1940s to the 1970s. Born Leroy Englewood Stults Jr. on 13 September 1913 in St. Louis, Missouri, he began in local radio before moving to network programmes and making his film debut in D.O.A. (1949).
He appeared in more than a hundred films, often in small or uncredited roles, including Strangers on a Train (1951), The Night of the Hunter (1955), Spartacus (1960), It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) and Silent Running (1972) as the voice of Anderson. On television he had recurring parts as a doctor on Bonanza and a rancher on The Virginian, and guest roles in series such as Gunsmoke, Get Smart and Mission: Impossible.
Engel died on 29 December 1980 in Burbank, California.
