Biography
Ruth Madoc was a Welsh actress. Born Margaret Ruth Llewellyn Baker on 16 April 1943 in Norwich, Norfolk, she was raised in Llansamlet near Swansea and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. She was best known for her role as Gladys Pugh in the BBC sitcom Hi-de-Hi! (1980–1988), for which she received a BAFTA TV award nomination.
Her other screen credits include Fruma Sarah in the film Fiddler on the Roof (1971) and Mrs Dai Bread Two in the film Under Milk Wood (1972). She appeared in Little Britain (2003) as Dafydd's mother, Benidorm (2007) as Riannon, and Beyond Paradise (2023) as Rosie Colbert. Madoc died on 9 December 2022 in Torquay, Devon.
