Biography
Ryuto Kondo (also credited as Ryûto Kondô or 近藤 龍人) is a Japanese cinematographer. Born in 1976 in Aichi Prefecture, he graduated from Osaka University of Arts.
He began working in film during his university years and has since shot dozens of features and television productions. Notable credits include Shoplifters (2018), Monster (2023), A Man (2022), The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House (2023) and Sheep in the Box (2026), several of them directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda.
Kondo has received awards including the Japan Academy Prize for Best Cinematography for Shoplifters and the Miura Award (Japan Society of Cinematographers Newcomer Award).
