Biography
Sela Ward is an American actress. Born in Meridian, Mississippi, she graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in fine art and advertising before moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
She made her film debut in The Man Who Loved Women (1983) and gained early television experience in Emerald Point N.A.S. (1983). Ward received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Teddy Reed in the series Sisters (1991–96). She played Helen Kimble in the film The Fugitive (1993).
Ward won a second Emmy and a Golden Globe for her leading role in Once and Again (1999–2002). Her other film credits include Gone Girl (2014), The Day After Tomorrow (2004) and Independence Day: Resurgence (2016). She also received a CableACE Award for portraying Jessica Savitch in the television film Almost Golden: The Jessica Savitch Story (1995).
