Biography
Shana Hagan is a cinematographer and member of the American Society of Cinematographers. She graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 1989 and began her career in post-production as an assistant editor on the documentary Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse (1991). She was subsequently given camera operator duties on additional interviews for the film, marking her first credited work behind the camera.
Hagan has shot numerous documentaries, including the Academy Award-winning short Breathing Lessons (1996) and Sundance selections such as Shakespeare Behind Bars, Generation Wealth (2018) and This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006). Her feature documentary credits include additional photography on Won't You Be My Neighbor? (2018) and Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain (2021), as well as The Kingmaker (2019) and 63 Up (2019).
In television, she has worked on series including four seasons of Parks and Recreation, the Netflix reboot of Arrested Development, Somebody Somewhere and Welcome to Flatch. She was the first woman to shoot on the reality series Survivor and received an Emmy nomination for her work on Survivor: China; she later won an Emmy for Little Richard: I Am Everything (2023).
